HOLDING
THE MOON
an introduction into menstrual literacy for men and male-bodied kin
This offering, a long-awaited guide on Menstrual Literacy for Men, has been emerging over the past few years. Since the inspiration first landed, I’ve taught multiple workshops and program series, including Meeting the Moon for young girls and Moon Tending for adult women. These programs are designed to deepen awareness and body literacy and foster connection to the cycles of the body, which so intimately mirror the Earth’s rhythms.
The most common reflections from participants have been, "I wish I knew this sooner!" and, "I wish the men in my life had access to this information." In response, I’ve created this free introductory workshop to welcome men into this essential conversation, creating space for curiosity and mutual understanding.
The traditional education system has long fallen short in the realm of reproductive health, with women’s health, in particular, being misunderstood, understudied, and misrepresented. This misunderstanding and gap in knowledge is not an individual shortcoming but a collective experience, rooted in systemic ignorance, cultural taboos, and historical exclusion of women’s health from mainstream education and medical research.
I recognize that this gap puts men and biologically male bodies in a unique position. Menstruation is not an experience they need to intimately understand for the functioning of their own bodies, yet it profoundly shapes the lives of more than half of humanity! Any curiosity men show reflects a courageous willingness to understand and develop compassionate awareness of the changes, challenges, ebbs, flows and power that a menstruating body experiences each month. It is also an act of honouring their origins, for every human is born from the womb, nourished by the blood, milk and body of a woman.
With this offering, I aim to build a bridge between reproductive health and relational understanding, creating a space where curiosity can be expressed and explored.
